World Education Support Personnel Day 16 May 2026

World Education Support Personnel Day is celebrated annually on 16 May, recognising the crucial role support staff play in education settings.

In Victoria, the day celebrates the vital contributions of Education Support (ES) staff in creating safe, inclusive and effective learning environments in government schools.

ES provide essential and diverse support services, including classroom assistance, student wellbeing, and key administrative, technical and operational functions, for example, human resources, finance, business management, IT and library services, allowing for the efficient functioning of a school.

In Victorian schools, Education Support staff include Auslan/English Educational Interpreters who provide communication access between the teacher, deaf and hard of hearing students and their hearing peers. This essential role helps reduce barriers to learning and ensures that children whose first language is Auslan have every opportunity to learn and reach their full potential.
