National Interpreter Appreciation Day 6 May 2026

National Interpreter Appreciation Day is 6 May, honouring the skill and vital role of both spoken and sign language interpreters.

Linguistic diversity and differences in communication modes can limit understanding and participation. Interpreters play a vital role in surmounting these obstacles, serving as conduits that bridge communication gaps between individuals who speak different languages or rely on alternative methods of expression, such as sign language.

National Interpreter Appreciation Day is an opportunity to celebrate the dedication of Auslan interpreters who act as allies for the Deaf and hearing communities and help to bridge communication and accessibility gaps daily across schools, hospitals, legal and community settings.
