After extensive consultation with experts and practitioners in the interpreting field, the Victorian Deaf Education Institute has developed the Professional Standards for Educational Interpreters – a framework to support the professional growth and practice of Auslan educational interpreters.
Educational Interpreters are specialist Educational Support staff who provide language and communication access in Auslan and English to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in their learning environment.
The Professional Standards for Educational Interpreters framework is the first of its kind in Australia and identifies evidence-based practice principles that are specific to this specialised role. The framework offers interpreters a consistent way to describe the competencies required for professional practice and aims to guide the ongoing professional learning and growth within the educational interpreting community.
